Elon Musk’s SpaceX have successfully blasted off a Falcon 9 rocket with Dragon capsule from Kennedy Space Centre in Florida. The Falcon 9 re-usable rocket has touched down & the Dragon is on its way to hook up with the International Space Station. Its whats on board that beggars belief!
On board the Dragon capsule that will hook up with the ISS is one of the worlds deadliest superbugs!
Oh yeah, now that’s a really great idea isn’t it, especially when you take into account the patchy success rate of previous SpaceX missions!
The rocket will dock at the International Space Station (ISS) with its 5,500 lbs (2494 kg) of cargo, including a deadly superbug, as part of an experiment to examine how the bacterium will mutate in low gravity environments, with a view to improving antibiotic efficacy on Earth.
Using a robotic arm, two astronauts will receive delivery of the bug responsible for killing more Americans every year than HIV/AIDS, emphysema, Parkinson’s disease, and homicide combined.
The ISS crew will monitor the samples using the cutting edge Gene-RADAR device, hoping that data uncovered can help refine models of drug resistance and support development of better medicines to counter it, NASA said.
Maybe its just me, but WTF! Do we really need to be taking something deadly and running the risk of it escaping on its way up to the ISS? Yet more madness from the so-called geniuses in the world of science.
